Purple Mountain Majesties

This is the morning after the blizzard that we got in Colorado Springs in March 2003. I love the sunrise-inspired pink hues on Pikes Peak, with the setting almost-full moon.

This is a wider shot of Pikes Peak and the surrounding mountains. It is a little later after sunrise, but it still shows the dramatic pink coloring, with the shadows of a low-angle sun, not to mention the rest of the sprawl from our apartment all the way up to the foothills.

Also note the two faint mountains to the right of center on the leftmost panel. Those are the Spanish Peaks, in extreme southern Colorado, basically on the New Mexico border, about 100 miles away.

Another moonset, back on 16 April 2003. It was pre-dawn, but the moonlight and twilight still provided enough light to make the picture possible, but also enable the city lights to glow.
